In the last month or so we've had significantly lower power levels on all the remote solar routers due to the lack of bright daylight hours.
Just over a year ago when CANT and TOMT were first deployed and linked with CZU in Fife, traffic levels on the mesh were much lower than today. This in turn meant that last winter we managed to scrape through without too many issues.
Today this mesh has 3 to 4 times as many nodes and since routers try to pass on ever packet they receive, that’s roughly 3-4 times as many TX cycles in a given period. In short, the remote routers struggling a little and we still have 6 weeks to go until the mid-winter daylight minimum.
So heres the suggestion:
All fixed position nodes (ie. Home nodes) could cut down their Node Info, Position and Power telemetry Info broadcasts to just once every 4 hours.
With this we could significantly lighten the load on the remote routers for the next few months and allow the batteries to store more of the available energy.
To do this on Android:
Set Node Info Interval
In RadioConfig > Device > Then alter the interval as below:

Then set the Node Info Broadcast Interval to 4 or 6 hours and hit ‘Save’ at the bottom.

Set Position Update Interval.
From Radio Config > Position >

Then set the Position Broadcast Interval to 4 or 6 hours and hit ‘Save’ at the bottom.

Set Power Telemetry Broadcast Interval
In Radio Config > Telemetry

And select 4 or 6 hours on the in ‘Device metrics update interval’.

And finally at the bottom on the Telemetry page set ‘Power metrics’ to 4 or 6 hours

And lastly press the ‘Save’ button at the bottom. You’re all set up!
Thank you again for helping us keep the remote router nodes running through the winter.
